| Selectively Cutting Back on Your Power Usage |
| The suggestions below are for those who want to do more than conserve energy and are willing to cut back on use of electric devices. The list here begins with the easiest things to do and progresses to the more challenging. |
| Permanently unplug all 'ghost' energy-wasters, such as digital LED display clocks (use your wristwatch to get the time), and other 24hr/7days-a-week electricity wasters in your home such as VCR's and stereos on standby mode with clock displays. |
| Air dry your laundry either on an outdoor line or an indoor rack. Do this either on a permanent basis or alternating with your dryer appliance. |
| Either eliminate or only occasionally use a hair drier to dry your hair after shampooing. |
| 'Summer Nature Evenings': turn off the air conditioning and lights for the evening once a week and have dinner outside by candlelight, gaze up at the stars, and tell personal stories until bedtime. |
|
Plan a 'Do-It-Yourself Family Entertainment Night' in which you do not turn on the TV, video, computer, stereo, or radio, but instead spend the evening either reading, telling stories, looking at the family photo album together, playing acoustic music, playing a board or card game, etc. Plan this once a week with your family or on your own. |
